JAZZ90.1/Big Road Blues, Water Street Music Hall & The House of
Guitars Present Hot Blues For The Homeless... A Tribute To Son House To
Benefit Catholic Family Center's Francis Center
(Rochester, NY) May 13, 2010 – Mississippi Delta bluesman Eddie "Son" House, who lived in Rochester over three decades, will be getting some "overdue recognition" at a tribute concert on Sunday, June 6th. "Son House made music that changed music," according to Dan Beaumont, professor at the University of Rochester, who has just completed a book about Son House titled Preachin' The Blues: The Life and Music of Son House to be published by Oxford University Press next year. "He was a primary influence on country blues legends Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters who called him 'the King'—and it doesn't get much better than that."
The concert benefits Catholic Family Center’s Francis Center, a homeless shelter for men in Rochester NY. Hot Blues for the Homeless is a community driven effort to provide entertainment and raise money for the Francis Center. This event provides an opportunity for the music community to share their talents while raising the awareness of the needs in our community. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the men in crisis served by the Center.
"It is difficult to raise funding for homeless men due to social stigmas, but the support and empathy of the blues community in Rochester is absolutely amazing," says Sue Barnes, funds developer for housing with Catholic Family Center of Rochester. "Son House fought demons of his own. The average homeless man in Rochester is between the ages of 24 and 26, mainly from troubled backgrounds, with little or no real family support, and often clinically depressed."
Hot Blues for the Homeless ...Presents a Tribute to Son House runs June 6th at the Water Street Music Hall located at 204 N. Water Street. This is an all ages show. The event features two components:

About Catholic Family Center:
Catholic Family Center is Rochester's largest family service provider, helping nearly 63,000 people each year achieve independence with dignity. Unlike most local human service agencies that perform a few services for one or two populations, CFC is a comprehensive agency that houses nine major service areas for people of all ages, races, religions and socioeconomic circumstances. In all, CFC has 60 programs within its nine service departments, available to the community at 17 locations throughout Monroe and Wayne Counties.
About Jazz90.1/Big Road Blues:
Jazz90.1 is Rochester's home for real jazz. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 90.1 FM, and over the Internet. Jazz90.1 plays more hours of live, local jazz than any radio station in the United States. In addition the station also has shows devoted to blues, Latin, polka and more. Big Road Blues explores the forgotten history of the blues spanning the 1920's through the 1970's. In addition to classic artists, the show focuses an equal amount of time on those forgotten blues figures from the past; from the once popular artists who are now forgotten to the obscure artists who may have only cut a handful of 78's or 45's.
